Eagle watch Saturday

AN IMMATURE bald eagle, above, passes overhead as it drops low over the Columbia River near The Dalles dam. The eagles move into the area every winter, and many perch in trees at The Dalles dam and on exposed rocks downstream. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park rangers host an eagle watch at The Dalles Dam Visitor Center Saturday, Jan. 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. As bald eagles migrate south each winter in search of food, the Columbia River provides an excellent food source for the winter guests. Westrick Park, near the dam and across from the visitor center, seems to be a favorite winter vacation spot. It is quiet and secluded December through early March.
