Dry conditions prompt burn restrictions

Effective immediately, all outdoor pile burning is prohibited until further notice.

The use of burn barrels outside of city limits will continue to be allowed until conditions warrant a full ban. Residents are reminded that they must follow all requirements listed on their permits to use a burn barrel, which is not allowed within the city limits.

Dan Hammel, fire marshal for the Mid-Columbia, said the severity of this fire season became evident with the Two Bulls Fire in Bend that began this weekend and has grown to over 6,000 acres.

A new law was enacted this year on lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry that bans the use of exploding targets, tracer ammunition and sky lanterns during fire season. You may reference ORS 477.512 for definitions and a full explanation of the law.
