DEQ to host open house

Residents can attend the meeting anytime during the three-hour period.

The health consultant will be using air monitoring data to evaluate whether long-term air exposures are harmful to the community.

The study will be conducted by OHA and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, a federal public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and sister agency of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

DEQ has held a number of public meetings to discuss issues regarding AmeriTies, which produces railroad ties in The Dalles.

The company uses a creosote-based formula which contains naphthalene to treat the ties.

Topics of study include air quality monitoring and permitting; odor nuisance strategy, and the health consultation report.

Members of the community will have an opportunity to speak with representatives from agencies and about air quality programs involving AmeriTies.
