Daniel Hunter, who currently serves as project coordinator for The Dalles, has been hired to be the city’s new human resources director.
Hunter has a master’s degree in public administration with a human resources concentration from American Military University in Charles Town, W. Va.
City Manager Julie Krueger said she believes Hunter’s knowledge of the city, along with his education, made him an ideal candidate for the new position.
Hunter said he is gratified for the new opportunity with the city.
“The human resources director position will be an interesting and, I am sure, a rewarding position,” Hunter said. “I am looking forward to the challenge. When I started thinking about a master’s degree, I felt human resources would be a good concentration, because personnel issues tend to be the most complex in any organization.”
Mayor Steve Lawrence said Hunter is a strong choice.
“Daniel has been a surprise ever since we hired him (as project coordinator),” Lawrence said. “His ability to tackle any project with organization and intelligence has been very impressive. I am very pleased with this choice made by Julie Krueger.”
Krueger said the human resources director won’t have any support staff.
Hunter said he sees the position as director as the next step in his career progression, adding that he hopes to one day become a city manager.
Hunter will start in his new role Sept. 1.
According to City Clerk Izetta Grossman, the project coordinator position Hunter currently holds is not being advertised at this time.
