‘Cheers to Belgian Beers’ from The Dalles

The event will take place on June 2-3 at the North Warehouse, 723 N. Tillamook Street in Portland, and will feature at least 70 Belgian-style beers brewed by Oregon craft brewers.

The festival will run from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, and from noon until 8 p.m. on Saturday. The event is for ages 21 and over.

Sedition Brewery will be there to showcase its “Gnome Mercy” brew, a “Belgian-style Dubbel Red” with 7 percent alcohol by volume. Sedition describes its entry as: “Rich, malty aromas of toffee and dark fruit, with a complimentary spicy and fruity yeast profile.”

Three Hood River brewers (Double Mountain Brewery, Pfriem Family Brewers, and Logsdon Farmhouse Ales) will also be in attendance, along with Thunder Island Brewing from Cascade Locks and Solera Brewery out of Parkdale.

The majority of beers for the Cheers to Belgian Beers Festival are made using imperial organic yeast strain “Gnome B45,” a yeast that produces peach and apricot esters with a spicy phenolic character.

To ensure diversity, the color and strength of most of the beers at the festival were pre-determined by a dart throw. Depending on where the dart landed on the board, the brewer was directed to brew a Belgian-style beer either light or dark in color, with amber as the midpoint; and either lower or higher in alcohol, with 6 percent being the median.

General admission to the festival is $20, which includes a beer goblet and eight drink tickets.

Portland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers takes place inside the North Warehouse as well as outside the facility in a tented parking lot.

Meals from Urban German Grill and Oregon Deli Company will be featured as well.

Parking at the site is limited, so attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the city’s public transportation systems, including TriMet Bus Line 35 and the Yellow Max Line, which stops just two blocks away.

Riding in on bikes is also encouraged, and free bike parking is available.
