MORO — Grass Valley and Sisters resident Duane Kenneth Boswell was sentenced by Circuit Judge John Wolf to 39 months in state prison on 11 criminal charges, including unauthorized use of a vehicle, trafficking in stolen vehicles and tampering with evidence, among others, according to information from Sherman County District Attorney Wade McLeod.
The sentence factored in the new findings of guilt as well as Boswell’s criminal history.
The convictions centered around events occurring in October 2011, when the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office seized what was believed to be a stolen Dodge pickup truck from one of Boswell’s business properties in Grass Valley. Around 2 a.m., the following morning, the state alleged Boswell broke into the sheriff’s office’s secure impound lot and took the vehicle, making it unavailable for further investigation.
Video and cell phone location data helped place Boswell near the scene of the crime.
The case was developed through a six-month criminal investigation led by Sgt. John Terrel of the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office.
Oregon Mutual Insurance Company conducted its own independent investigation as a result of Boswell making an insurance claim for the stolen vehicle. The investigation aided the state’s case.
