Artists and antique dealers with an eye to quality are encouraged to investigate “The Artisan Attic” being established in the upstairs loft of “The whole ball of yarn” downtown The Dalles.
“It’s going to be open for artisan and antique dealers of high quality,” explained Paulette Brook, who opened her yarn craft shop almost five years ago.
The work does not need to relate to knitting or yarn, Brook added, although the items do need to be family friendly. “I will be approving the items,” she explained. “I’m looking for high quality, nothing distasteful or vulgar.”
Already, vendors have arranged to sell hand-made lotions and refurbished furniture painted with Americana. Others have expressed interest in selling leatherwork, large quilting work and other hand crafted items.
“There is still plenty of space available,” Brook added.
The attic will be located in the upstairs loft at her shop, where approximately 800 square feet of booth space is available.
Vendors will have to provide booth walls or barriers. Space is available by the square foot, with 12 by 12, 6 by 6 and 3 by 4 foot spaces available at $1.25 per square foot, plus a three percent service fee on sales.
Brook will help artists enter inventory and monitor sales with her point-of-sale program and provide cashier services. “They just provide product,” she explained.
Brook decided on the attic to utilize her upstairs space, and saw a need for booth space.
“I have all that space not being utilized, and there are people who want to sell, but can’t afford to rent an entire shop,” she noted.
She plans to open the loft for retail sales the first week of November. “It’s a good time to get started, people are shopping,” she said.
The attic will be open all year, not just through the holidays.
“I’m excited, I envision it will bring more people downtown The Dalles,” Brook added.
She is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
