Four local wrestlers from Hood River’s Elite Edge Wrestling Academy went to Reno, Nev., last weekend to compete in the world’s largest youth wrestling tournament, the World of Wrestling Championships. The team, coached by Sean Baker, wrestled well, and Emily Sullenger went 3-2 in the tournament and placed fifth in the 14U 84-pound weight bracket, earning the title of All-American for the first time in her career. Jason Shaner placed sixth out of 128 boys in the 15 and under 125-pound weight bracket, and earned the title of All-American for the second year in a row. He went 7-3 in the tournament. Also wrestling in the tournament were Adrian Ramirez and Felipe Mendez, who went 3-2 and 2-2, respectively, in the heavyweight and 64-pound brackets.
