With second place in the Columbia River Conference secured last week by HRV softball in its 11-1 victory over Hermiston, the Eagles had nothing to play for besides something to prove on Tuesday, May 8 against the conference undefeated Pendleton Buckaroos.
In its five past outings, HRV softball has dropped four games, including three in a row.
The Dufur Rangers trailed all game long, but had a golden opportunity to pull off a thrilling late comeback. Justin Eiesland was the right man to lean on.
Pendleton entered Tuesday’s Columbia River Conference baseball tussle needing a win to take a four-game series against The Dalles. Big Country Henry Lee had the final say. Lee capped a six-run bottom of the sixth inning with a walk-off, two-run home run to left centerfield to give the Riverhawks a 17-7 victory over the Buckaroos in a league contest played at Bob Williams Field.
The Sherman Huskies fell behind 9-6 through four innings, but Weston-McEwen scored six runs in the fifth on its way to a 17-9 non-league win Tuesday in Moro. Also on the diamond, the Dufur Rangers evened their league record to 2-2 on the year after securing a 9-8 victory Tuesday over the last-place Heppner Mustangs. Read more in Thursday’s Chronicle.

Parke smashes winning home run in seventh inning to defeat Pilot Rock, 12-11 Just a home run from a rare cycle, Cole Parke came through with his usual flair for the dramatic. The Dufur junior rifled a 2-1 fastball to the opposite field for walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give his team a 12-11 triumph over Pilot Rock and a berth into the 2A Blue Mountain Conference district baseball championships Tuesday in baseball action at Dufur City park.
