Just weeks after graduating as valedictorian of The Dalles High School, Cole McDowell headed off to serve for two years in the El Salvador, San Salvador East Mission, for the Church of Jesus Crist of Latter-day Saints.

REDMOND (AP) — Redmond High School has 29 valedictorians in the class graduating Friday. That’s 29 seniors with a grade point average of 4 or better. KTVZ reports the class had a 4-point system for three years, and this year the school district went to a 5-point system. Assistant Principal Tony Pupo says the district is trying to be fair to all the students who expected to be valedictorian. Next year there will be a single valedictorian at Redmond High School.
