After sending two promising applicants to the Police academy this summer, only one has made the cut to join the Bingen-White Salmon Police Department.

Before the Bingen-White Salmon Police Department starts issuing citations for illegal parking on the south side of downtown Jewett Boulevard next month, Police Chief Tracy Wyckoff is hoping motorists will have adapted to the city’s new back-in angle parking policy.

Back-in parking will soon be the norm on the south side of Jewett Boulevard in downtown White Salmon. The City Council unanimously passed an amendment to the parking code on June 1 that calls for back-in parking on Jewett’s south side between S 1st Avenue and the entrance to the Hi-School Pharmacy and Ace Hardware carpark.

The White Salmon City Council took up speed limits and parking issues during its April 15 meeting, and adopted ordinances that will affect certain areas in the city limits.
