Mid-Columbia Oregon Retired Teachers, Unit 20, has selected Theresa Schugt as its 2020 scholarship recipient.
Last year, The Dalles did not have a single team win, were scratching for individual victories and every player was eliminated in the first round of district action. This past weekend at the Intermountain Conference girls tennis tournament on the Ridgeview High School campus in Redmond, every player was in at least the second round or better and four out of the eight quarterfinal matches between singles and doubles were filled with Hawk players.
Intermountain Conference golfers competed in the final league event of the season to determine state and regional qualifiers Monday at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville. Medalist for the event was Isaac Buerger from Ridgeview with a 75, followed by Brodie Kuizenga from Crook County and Aidan Telles from The Dalles with 79’s.
In two league matchups with Pendleton, the Lady Buckaroos have been able to get the close wins when it counted. Earlier in the season, Pendleton won 11-10 on total sets won, and Tuesday, they secured three doubles victories and tacked on a pair of wins on the singles side, two of those decisions coming in close third-set tiebreakers in a 5-3 triumph.
Coming off a 7-1 loss last week at Redmond, The Dalles boys tennis team played short-handed this past Tuesday, but still scored a 5-0 win at home over Pendleton with every match decided by straight sets.
Maddie Troutt broke a 9-all tie with a two-out RBI single to score Emma Smith as part of a four-run bottom of the sixth inning, and Kilee Hoylman escaped a late rally attempt with a strikeout and a fly out with the tying run at third base in The Dalles’ 10-9 second-game comeback victory over Hood River Valley in IMC softball action Friday from 16th Street Ballpark. Up against 19 6A programs out of the 34 in attendance, The Dalles track and field team posted 13 personal records and six season-best marks at the 55th annual Centennial Invitational Meet held Saturday in Portland.
As district play quickly approaches, The Dalles girls tennis team is on a major roll. Over their last five matches, the Riverhawks are 4-1 with their only loss coming on April 20 versus Pendleton, where the contest ended deadlocked at 4-4, but the Bucks scored the 11-10 win based on total sets.
Over the past three matches, The Dalles boys tennis team has gone 2-1 with wins over Ridgeview and Hood River Valley and a 7-1 loss on the road against Redmond in Tuesday’s varsity contest.
Early on, it appeared as though The Dalles softball team was headed towards a blowout home victory over No. 5 Pendleton. Third-ranked TD led 10-2 through three innings and 11-4 after five, but the Lady Bucks rallied for six runs on six hits in the top of the sixth to get to within 11-10, the Hawks answered with a single run in the bottom half and Kilee Hoylman escaped a jam in the seventh frame to preserve the 12-11 win in IMC softball action Tuesday from 16th Street Ballpark.
