Neticia Fanene was a three-sport The Dalles High athlete who went on to set volleyball records at the University of Oregon. Steve Sugg was a standout athlete and later head coach of six The Dalles state championship baseball teams.

The Dalles High Riverhawks (2-7) won their first home game of the season, 4-3, over the Milwaukie High Mustangs (2-4) April 1 at Quinton Street Ballpark.

It was a bounce-back game for the Hawks, who regained some much-needed confidence following a 13-8 loss at home to the Class 6A Forest Grove High Vikings (3-4) March 29.

The Dalles High Riverhawks baseball team will be focusing on having its first full season in three years when they play their 2022 opener March 15 at 4:30 p.m. against the Putnam High Kingsmen at Quinton Street Ballpark.

The Hawks played a COVID-shortened, six-week schedule last year, posting a 3-14 record — including a 3-7 Intermountain Conference mark.

The Ridgeview Ravens seemed like an ideal opponent for The Dalles High in the Intermountain Conference District baseball quarterfinals. The Dalles (3-7 IMC, 3-14 overall) beat Ridgeview (2-8 IMC, 3-14) twice in the regular season by the scores of 13-8 and 12-2 and they earned the IMC’s fourth seed and a home game against the fifth-seeded Ravens.

Despite losing four straight games last week, The Dalles High Riverhawks baseball team concluded the Intermountain Conference regular season schedule by finishing in fourth place out of the six-team league.

Playing for the first time in nearly two years, The Dalles High Riverhawk baseball team held its 2021 season opener Saturday in a nonleague matchup versus the Mountain View Cougars of Bend. The more experienced Cougars - with two seniors and eight juniors - proved to be a very formidable opponent against a young Riverhawk squad that includes 10 freshmen and no seniors. The Cougars won both games, 19-1 and 16-0, at Quinton Street Ballpark.
