Jupiter continues to shine bright in February’s evening skies, and the winter constellations Orion and Taurus are bright on clear nights. But let’s focus on something else this winter month, called circumpolar constellations.Â
Welcome to May, our last full month of spring. Nights are getting shorter — by the end of the month, the sun will set just before 9 p.m., and full darkness will not happen until after 11 p.m. But even those twilight evening hours provide plenty to see.
Our first full month of fall is here. Saturn rides higher in the evening sky, and Jupiter joins the party late in the month. Darkness falls earlier, a good month to get in some dark sky viewing when skies are clear!
Welcome to July — we are already in the second half of 2024. Our first full month of summer features warmer nights and clearer skies (we hope!), but we continue to have a dearth of planets in our evening skies.
June is here, the month of our longest days and shortest nights. The summer solstice occurs on June 20, the start of summer. On that day, at its highest, the Sun will be about 68 degrees above our southern horizon.
