With senior point guard Kilee Hoylman out indefinitely with an Achilles injury, The Dalles girls basketball team put forth gritty performances on consecutive nights in a 57-44 loss to No. 8-ranked St. Helens Friday and a 56-52 home setback at the hands of Milwaukie Saturday.

JR Scott took home first place, Andrew Richman and Mauricio Carrera each tallied runner-up finishes, and Steven Preston claimed fifth place to lead The Dalles wrestling team to 92.5 points and seventh place overall at the 10-team Tigard Invitational Saturday. For Richman, it was his first finals appearance in his four-year career and Carrera’s first title berth in three campaigns. “I am so proud,” TD coach Paul Beasley said.

When The Dalles gives up 35 points or fewer, they are 5-1. Friday at Kurtz Gym, the 5A classification’s fifth-best scoring defense (38.5 points a game) was on full display in a 43-33 triumph Friday versus St. Helens.

Matt Morgan is ready to get to work. Morgan, the new athletic director/vice principal at The Dalles High School, was hired July 26 and is already serving in his new role.
