On Monday or Tuesday, work will begin on an aggressive new round of tree removal at Sorosis Park, focusing on 100-plus trees at the front of the park along Scenic Drive, a park official said.

The Vogt Fountain at the Sorosis Park rose garden is operational again after many years of disrepair.
Work has begun on a project to repair part of the irrigation system on the eastern portion of Sorosis Park. The repairs cover the ground between the picnic shelter and Columbia Gorge Community College, as well as the rose garden.
The 26-year-old Riverfront Trail is in need of significant repairs, especially on the west end of the trail, and as much as two-thirds of the funds needed for the work have been identified, said Julie Kruger, city manager of The Dalles. The city, which approved up to $100,000 for repairs in July, has received commitments of $50,000 each from the People’s Utility District (PUD) and the Port of The Dalles, Kruger told the Chronicle Aug. 9.
The public pool in The Dalles will be open for a “bonus swim” this Saturday, Sept. 7, from noon to 6 p.m.
