Spring fling SUP weekend March 12-13; Ryan Ward shines in home debut for WSU Cougars baseball team; HRV baseball players sign letters of intent at NW colleges; Snowboard state championships this week at Meadows
HRV’s game Wednesday against the Central Catholic Rams wasn’t on the schedule to start the season, with Eagles’ coach Erich Harjo adding the contest a few weeks ago with the intention of preparing his athletes for the playoffs by giving them extra practice against a highly competitive opponent.
With the CRC title firmly in HRV’s hands, the Eagles were only playing for pride in Friday’s game against The Dalles, who unlike HRV, had a lot to lose — namely the final play-in spot in the Columbia River Conference.
After securing the CRC title with win over The Dalles last week, the Eagles were looking to win-out the rest of their league games in order to ensure home-field advantage for when the playoffs start later this month.
The Hood River Valley High Eagles baseball team has enjoyed remarkable success this year at Traner Field where they’ve posted a sparkling 6-1 record. If their home cooking continues this week, the Eagles will very likely win their first ever Columbia River Conference championship Friday when they face the Pendleton Buckaroos.
HRV baseball continues to tally up its wins in the Columbia River Conference after having a productive weekend against Hermiston during a home doubleheader, taking down the Bulldogs 11-1 in the first game, and fending off a late rally to win the second frame, 4-3.
HRV returned from spring break this week after a rough trip down to Phoenix, Ariz., where the Eagles went 1-3 against non-league teams during the Coach Bob Invitational.
