DUFUR – Parker Wallace placed first in the Novice Male division, Jessica Elam had a top-10 finish, and the duo of Peyton Neal and Hunter Wagenblast ended up tied for 16th place to lead the Dufur Clay Target Team at the Oregon State High School Clay Target League Tournament held on June 22 at the Hillsboro Trap and Skeet Club.
DUFUR – Competing against parents and Dufur High School student athletes, Dufur School District principal Leo Baptiste claimed two victories in six heats of Annie Oakley competition. Baptiste joined the Dufur High School clay target team and their parents for a barbecue potluck and competition on the property of Stan Ashbrook in what lead advisor Robert Wallace said was a family fun day for the kids ahead of state competition on Saturday, June 23 in Hillsboro.
DUFUR – Of the eight Dufur Ranger shooters, Peyton Neal and Kyler Powell stood tall under the pressure and under the sweltering 98-degree weather. Neal and Powell each claimed second place to lead Dufur High School at the Oregon High School Clay Target State Tournament last weekend at the Hillsboro Trap and Skeet Club in Hillsboro.
DUFUR – The Annie Oakley competition starts with all shooters at the line, then each person takes turns shooting the clay. Fun times and great moments are the reasons why Robert Wallace decided to start the Oregon Clay Target High School program in Dufur.
The county’s voters were clearly in a mood to make changes, as all four CGCC incumbents seeking another term were swept out in the May 16 special election. The jail measure, creating a permanent tax rate of 26 cents per $1,000 property valuation, was narrowly losing, down by just 11 votes of approximately 8,450 cast across four counties.
In the May 16 special election, four candidates are competing for three seats on the Port of The Dalles Board of Commissioners. The five-member board makes decisions about developing or selling land and which economic development projects to pursue, among other topics.
The Wasco County Fair is sticking with the theme “What Happens in Tygh Vegas…” Despite receiving pushback from 4-H and others, the fair board unanimously approved the 2016 theme at its May 9 meeting in Tygh Valley. Zachary Harvey, chairman of the fair board, said he, Chris Schanno, Colleena Tenold-Sauter, Ken Polehn and Michael Hunt did discuss changing the theme before making their final decision.
