Those visiting popular recreation sites along the Lewis River in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Lewis River Recreation Area can expect some changes this year. Visitors who park within the Lewis River Recreation Area will now be required to obtain a reserved parking ticket during the busy visitor season: June 15 through Sept. 30.
‘First Day’ hikes will be held throughout Oregon on New Years Day, including a morning hike at the Deschutes River State Recreation Area east of The Dalles and an afternoon hike to the west at the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail in Mosier. To the east, Cottonwood Canyon and Smith Rock state parks are hosting hikes as well.
A pilot program that will offer discounted rates for electrical and full-hookup RV campsites is now available at selected Oregon state parks during September and October. Campers will be able to apply an online code to receive a $7 discount off the nightly RV campsite rate, bringing the current rate from $24-33 down to $17-26.
