Oregon Second District Congressman Greg Walden’s October decision not to run for re-election is having a ripple effect in Eastern Oregon. State Senator Cliff Bentz, whose 30th District includes the eastern portion of Wasco County, is resigning on Jan. 2 to run for Walden’s seat in the U.S. House. A story in the Baker City Herald on Friday reports that Republican precinct committee officials plan to meet Jan. 4 at the Grant County Airport in John Day to nominate at least three candidates to replace Bentz in the Oregon Senate.

Henkle Middle School saw a flurry of activity this past weekend. An estimated 600-plus Democrats from all over west Klickitat County gathered to caucus Saturday morning, March 26, filling the parking lot to the brim and overflowing on to the grass.
On Saturday, March 26, Washington State and Klickitat County Democrats will caucus in their local precincts to select their candidate for President of the United States. Sign-in begins at 9:30 a.m., and precinct caucusing begins at 10 a.m.
To the editor: Thank you so much for printing the article by Diana West entitled “Impeachment by laws, not men.” When will everyone wake up to what is happening to our wonderful nation? The news media does not cover much of what this president is doing to destroy our laws. He thinks he has executive power to take out his pen and sign into law, which he does not have the power to do.
