Hood River Valley’s girls swim team capped off a successful season with its fourth-place finish in Friday’s OSAA Class 5A state meet in Beaverton.
The Eagles clinched the fourth-place trophy when senior Sarah Arpag finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and then anchored HRV’s third-place 400 freestyle relay. The three points Arpag earned in the backstroke gave the Eagles 23 overall; the relay placing earned them eight more for a team total of 31.
Hood River Valley’s girls cross country team, led by junior Phoebe Wood’s eighth-place individual finish, earned the fourth-place trophy at last weekend’s state cross country championships.
Two places one way or another was the difference between a championship and runner-up finish at the Oct. 20 Trico League Championship cross country race at Vancouver Lake.
Once again, history was made by Dufur High School as Cole Kortge, Abraham Kilby, Tanner Masterson and Asa Farrell produced a time of 44.01 seconds at the Regis Community Twilight Meet Friday in Stayton, beating their old mark of 44.58 set on April 19.
Tyler Vassar hit birdies on 14 and 15 and shot a 74 for medalist honors, his second in the past three tournaments, Aidan Telles, who had one birdie, added an 81 for third place, and The Dalles boys golf squad combined for a season-best 345 to secure second place in Intermountain Conference play Monday at Eagle Crest in Redmond.
