To the editor: “Trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair.” Author unknown. For many years, I trusted our congressman, Greg Walden. Even though I’ve always been a Democrat, I voted for him. I can’t say it took just “seconds” for Mr. Walden to break my trust, but over the past few years, during which he voted ENTIRELY along party lines (even though many of his constituents crossed their party lines to vote for him), my trust in him was broken, and it cannot be repaired.

From the very beginning of my chosen life as a landscape photographer, I have sought out light at the edges of day. There is a brief moment when shadows emerge, then disappear. It is those fleeting seconds of surreal beauty that I live for.

Colorfully painted rocks with vignettes, and encouraging words are being spotted all over the Gorge. Especially in White Salmon. If you look hard enough in the park, the library, or even on the sidewalks of Jewett there’s a possibility you’ll spot one.

To the editor: I had the pleasure of attending the TDHS performance of “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” this weekend and it was a true delight. I volunteered as an audience member speller which allowed me to go on stage and see up close the talent of the cast. Every single one of the actors was poised and stayed in character even while they interacted with us audience volunteers. Their ability to embody their character made me believe that caterjunes was a real word and that “Life is Pandemonium!” Also, kudos to those actors with limited stage time who engaged with audience members at intermission and kept us focused on the standings of the Bee contestants.

Sometimes we approach our jobs, especially the ones we’ve been doing awhile, with a casual ease. When I stood to hear the nomination of Meals on Wheels for Outstanding Community Service Organization it caught me a little off guard, do we really do all that stuff they are listing off? Then I thought, “Wow, we do!”
