The Wasco County Republican Central Committee is seeking nominees to fill the House District 59 seat vacated Oct. 28 by Oregon Rep. John Huffman, who makes his home in The Dalles. In July, Huffman announced he would not run for re-election in 2018 because he would have fulfilled his goal to serve for 10 years.

The Mid-Columbia Health Foundation has announced nominees for the 2017 Tradition of Compassion Philanthropy Awards to recognize people who donate their time and talents to build a healthy community.

I admit it, I watched the Oscars Sunday night. I’d only seen two of the Best Picture nominees and couldn’t care less about who won for Best Costume Editing in an Animated Short. I tuned in because, not unlike a presidential primary debate, it can be wonderful theater to watch out-of-touch blowhards trying to “trend” with their “passion” for the crisis du jour.
