Learning to be Thankful can be the key to lifelong happiness. Thankfulness is a learned behavior that teaches us to look for things in our lives and environment. Adults who are aware of things they are thankful for usually have a positive outlook on their lives and interactions with others.

To the editor: The Port of The Dalles is in a critical moment of its history. As a candidate for Position #1 on the Port of The Dalles board, I believe that this moment is ripe with opportunity, and applaud the new ideas such as workforce mentoring as another means to contribute to the economic vitality of the area that the Port serves.
To the editor: The newspaper’s lead front page story should read “Embarrassing Bullies Converge Upon Middle School” in regards to Rep. Greg Walden’s town hall meeting held April 12 in Hood River.
To the editor: A recent front-page story in The Dalles Chronicle contained good advice from local counselors for achieving healthy and productive political engagement. Good civic discourse is when citizens step out of their tribal comfort zone and engage someone of decidedly different political persuasion in mutually respectful give and take. Everybody benefits when understanding the issues is at the heart of the discussion instead of personalities or "being right.”
To the editor: Welcome home, brother. I, too, felt the “sting” of being a Vietnam Vet and at times, of even being in the military. Much of that has passed ... different era ... different mindset. But I am not the least bit surprised at the salute granted you by another vet during the parade.
