South Wasco County track standouts Ana Popchock, Michael Cuevas and Dawson Herlocker scored wins, and the boys and girls picked up eight personal records at the Condon-Wheeler Invitational Friday in Condon.
At the six-team Mustang Invitational in Heppner, the South Wasco County Redsides amassed 13 personal records, Michael Cuevas grabbed four wins to lead the boys and Ana Popchock drummed out two individual victories and helped the girls’ 4x100-relay team to a win.
Just nine months following a fourth-place outcome at the 1A state girls’ track and field championships, the South Wasco County Lady Redsides racked up five first-place finishes and tacked on four seconds at the Condon-Wheeler Preview on Friday, March 17 in a season-opening race in Condon.
The South Wasco County Redsides are one win away from ending the year with a two-game winning streak and have a chance to finish the regular season fifth in the Big Sky Conference standings.
Just two meets into the 2016 campaign and South Wasco County senior and defending 1A state shotput champion Ellis Rager already looks poised for a repeat run at the top spot. Rager had a first-place throw of 46-feet-1 inches, a career-best and he tacked on a distance of 120-08 for top honors in the discus event to lead the Redside boys at the Culver Invitational Wednesday in a six-team track meet.
