Entering the season without all-league winners Kyrsten Sprouse and Madisen Davis, along with all-league and all-state recipient, Jada Myers, the South Wasco County volleyball team had seven of 12 players stepping up to play varsity ball for the first time ever.
Once again, history was made by Dufur High School as Cole Kortge, Abraham Kilby, Tanner Masterson and Asa Farrell produced a time of 44.01 seconds at the Regis Community Twilight Meet Friday in Stayton, beating their old mark of 44.58 set on April 19.
In their third meet of the year, the South Wasco County girls reeled off a win, two seconds and three thirds to net a third-place team total of 69.5 points at Saturday’s Jeff Agar Memorial Track and Field Invite in Trout Lake, Wash.
2018 state qualifiers back in action and a handful of others had personal records and season records at Tuesday’s five-team track and field meet held at Sid White Field.

Destiny Mora-Lopez was an unstoppable force down in the paint for No. 6-ranked South Wasco County. The 5-foot-11-inch sophomore post scored a season-high 19 points, 14 in the first half, to lead the Lady Redsides to a 50-26 win Wednesday in a rescheduled girls basketball game played at Dufur High School.
The No. 5-ranked girls South Wasco County hoops team jumpstarted its Big Sky Conference schedule with three straight lopsided victories, the last two on Monday and Tuesday against Mitchell-Spray and Arlington, where they came out on top by a combined 101-41 margin.
MAUPIN – All-state middle blocker Jada Myers looks around the gymnasium and sees a lot of familiar faces and several new ones. Although the landscape is much different than a year ago, the senior is not making any excuses — she is even more motivated to help the South Wasco County Redsides win a championship.
It is a rarity that an athlete dominates a track and field event the way South Wasco County’s Madisen Davis did this spring. The junior capped a perfect season with nine wins in nine meets as she captured a javelin state championship with a top distance of 127-feet-1 inch, besting her nearest competitor, Adrian’s Shyanne Allaire (114-6), during opening-day action Thursday at the 1A OSAA State Track and Field Championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene.
