South Wasco County track standouts Ana Popchock, Michael Cuevas and Dawson Herlocker scored wins, and the boys and girls picked up eight personal records at the Condon-Wheeler Invitational Friday in Condon.
At the six-team Mustang Invitational in Heppner, the South Wasco County Redsides amassed 13 personal records, Michael Cuevas grabbed four wins to lead the boys and Ana Popchock drummed out two individual victories and helped the girls’ 4x100-relay team to a win.
POWDER VALLEY – The South Wasco County Redsides had a memorable playoff run this winter, racking up 13 wins, a third-place finish in districts and the program’s first state berth since 2002 under first-year coach Lynn Cowdrey.
Allie Noland and Lindsey Hull went for double figures, and senior guard Cassie Davis tallied nine to lead the South Wasco County Redsides to a 49-35 girls’ hoops win over Arlington Friday. “We came to play,” said SWC coach Bill Mead. “We played Redside basketball on both ends of the court. We had all-around scoring from everyone. It was a great team effort.” The Redsides led 13-4 through one quarter and 18-10 at the half.
Looking to make a big splash in the Big Sky Conference next winter, the South Wasco County Redside girls’ basketball team made its first appearance of the summer session with a pair of wins Monday at The Dalles Middle School.
