Normally, dancers and cheerleaders perform at smaller venues in front of mainly family and friends. There are some nerves, some sweating and nervous anticipation, but the adrenaline is pumping. On Saturday, Dec. 8, 47 members of The Dalles Dance Club Academy were given an opportunity to show off a six-minute routine in front of a capacity crowd of 19,359 at the Moda Center in Portland during a Trail Blazers basketball game.

The Dalles Dance Club Academy made history at the Grand Championships in Seaside last weekend by receiving the highest-scoring group awards in the Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Accelerated Advanced classifications, marking the first time ever a program has swept all levels in the event’s 37 years.

In its final recital of the summer, The Dalles Dance Club Academy of Performing Arts team put forth a historic performance at the 34th annual Dance Magic this past weekend in Seaside. The Dance Club dominated every division with first-place finishes, an accomplishment only attained once over the past 22 years under the leadership of dance instructor Kristi Maley.

Gold awards were flying for members of The Dalles Dance Academy this past weekend at the Onstage New York Dance Competition held at the Portland Convention Center. TD received top awards in the Teen, Junior and Mini-Division, in areas such as Jazz, Tap, Musical Theater and Solo, as its competition came from approximately 50 studios around the Pacific Northwest and 861 dancers in this regional event.
