When putting the past five years into perspective, Sherman head coach Gary Lewis called it a collaborative effort from parents, community members, coaches and players. The No. 1-ranked Huskies wrapped up a fifth consecutive Baker City trip with a 1-2 record, losing 59-52 Saturday versus Damascus Christian to secure sixth-place honors at the 1A state playoffs.

MORO – While everyone outside their locker room had doubts as to how realistic any Baker City berths were at the start of the season, the Sherman Huskies held steadfast to the belief that anything was possible as long as they put in the work and stayed united. That extra drive was all they needed to pick up a fifth consecutive trip to Baker.

Owen Christiansen scored a victory, and the trio of Makoa Whitaker, Keenan Coles and Mercedez Cardona chipped in runner-up finishes, as the Husky boys were third and the girls fourth at the Condon-Wheeler Relays Wednesday in Condon.

MORO – Back in 1989, Doug Martin and Joe Justesen claimed state championships in football and basketball. Nearly 30 years later, their sons, Treve Martin and Jacob Justesen, are looking to lock down a third consecutive 1A state boys’ basketball championship. “Just like anything, going back to Baker is a surreal feeling,” Treve said.
