Jason Shaner’s stellar wrestling season ended on the highest note possible last weekend, when the junior swept the competition in the 126-pound weight bracket at the 5A state championships, and took home first place for the Eagles.
The Hood River Valley wrestling team didn’t have its best team finish at last weekend’s district meet, but on an individual level, it was the best meet in several years for the Eagles.
Another busy weekend yielded some good performances for the HRV varsity wrestling team as they traveled to Madras to face many of their Special District 4 rivals at a tournament. Originally, the Eagles were going to travel to Stevenson for an invitational, but that was canceled.
The HRV varsity and girls wrestling teams once again ran into weather issues last weekend, but were able to get a few matches in on Friday, before ducking out of the I-5 corridor and back into the Gorge ahead of Saturday’s storm, cutting short both competitions they were attending.
