DUFUR – Playing against state runner-up Powder Valley, the Dufur Rangers held the Badgers to six second-half field goals in a 39-33 upset basketball win Saturday at the Ranger Dome.
MADRAS – With a state berth on the line, the Ione Cardinals broke open a 28-23 lead entering the fourth quarter with a 17-6 run to pull off the 45-29 victory over the Dufur Rangers in girls play Saturday.
Dufur captured wins against Condon-Wheeler and Arlington over the weekend to move into fourth place in the Big Sky conference, one game behind Echo at the midway point of the league season.
The Dufur Rangers had tough meets at the Condon-Wheeler Invite and the Portland Christian Invitational on back-to-back afternoons and totaled four wins and five seconds, as the boys scored top-5 outcomes at both venues. At Friday’s Condon-Wheeler Invite, the 4x100-meter relay squad of Asa Farrell, Abraham Kilby, Anthony Thomas and Tanner Masterson set their season-best with a final time of 45.49 to take first place.
The Dufur Rangers finished the second half on a 34-31 run, but the Ione Cardinals had already built a 30-15 halftime lead to turn in a 61-49 triumph Saturday in Big Sky girls’ basketball play in Ione.
The Dufur Rangers went 6 of 15 from the line and managed four first-half field goals, seven overall, in a 30-29 loss to Horizon Christian Friday in a girls’ basketball contest played at Dufur High School.
Alexus Outlaw, Kierstin White and Jessica Brown each surpassed double digits, and the Dufur Rangers cruised to a 25-10 halftime lead enroute to a 52-24 drubbing of North Lake Friday in the opening round of the Ranger Basketball Tournament at Dufur High School.
Coming off a 43-point loss Friday against defending champion Nixyaawii, the Dufur Rangers rebounded with a dominant performance Saturday in a 49-16 girls’ basketball victory over Lyle. “It was great for us to get the win, but we still have a lot of work to do,” said Dufur head coach Hollie Darden.
