The 2022 Big Sky League volleyball playoffs begin Wednesday at Condon High School, with the winners of those matches qualifying for the Class 1A state playoffs. But before then, they have a chance to win the district title this weekend, as well.
The Dufur High Rangers boys basketball team had a successful start to their Class 1A Big Sky Conference season, while competing on the hardwood this past week for the first time in nearly 15 months. Because of COVID-19, the normal winter basketball schedule was canceled and rescheduled for a short 10-game spring season this year.
With the weekend off and two final league games set for Wednesday and Friday of next week, the Dufur Lady Rangers see themselves tied for second place in the Big Sky Conference following Tuesday’s 46-34 home victory over Condon-Wheeler.
Abby Birman totaled 15 points, Jade McCoy rattled off eight and the seventh-ranked South Wasco County Redsides showed no mercy in a good matchup against No. 12 Perrydale last Saturday in Maupin.
The South Wasco County girls’ basketball team opened eyes during the regular season with 21 wins and a 15-game winning streak. It appears that the Lady Redsides are hitting their stride at the right time for Big Sky Conference girls’ basketball competition at Madras High School.
South Wasco County fell behind 21-16 through one period, 39-27 at the half and inched to within a 10-point deficit with three minutes left in regulation, but Ione went on an 8-0 run down the stretch to pick up its 67-49 boys’ basketball win Saturday in Ione.
