To the editor: I agree with Mr. Brophy on every point (letter March 27) concerning the July 4 festivities in The Dalles. Our country celebrates independence from a tyrannical ruler (Britain) on July 4, not just an arbitrary date to have an excuse for a parade and party.

To the editor: The Fourth of July is the day the United States declared independence. Not June 30, not July 1, or whatever day is convenient to schedule festivities that will draw greater funds.

To the editor: Oh how I wish I could vote for Solea Kabakov for mayor! As a resident of The Dalles, but living outside the city limits, I am unable to have a voice in this election that impacts our city.

To the editor: Re: the March 11 “Global warming: Real or a power grab?” Cross Talk. The argument that global warming is an evil UN plot to seize control over our lives is a specious one.
