An ad hoc committee will be examining several properties both in and outside the Hood River city limits over the next week or more to determine their feasibility as possible dog park sites for public use.
Barrett Park has been the source of much controversy over the past two years and now, once again, finds itself embroiled in not one, but two new disputes over land use issues.
The Hood River Aquatic Center has a long and vibrant history as the county’s public swimming pool, dating back to its pre-remodel seasonal days when it was lined with 10-foot-high green fencing and the Summer Swim Bus picked-up and dropped-off full loads of kids from as far away as Parkdale to spend the day lounging around in the sunshine and helping lifeguards get good use out of their whistles.
After a couple years in the works, Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District is making visible progress on the Westside Community Trail. When completed, the trail will provide off-street travel from Fairview Drive near Westside Elementary School down to the Rotary Skate Park on Wasco Ave. Although some sections of the trail will be on sidewalk, most of it will stray from roads, taking advantage of the patchwork of open green spaces between the school and the skate park.
