In what would have to be considered as their most impressive win of the season, the Dufur High Rangers won 48-44 over their adjacent county rival South Wasco in a Class 1A girls basketball game Saturday at Dufur High School.
The 2A Heppner Mustangs outscored Dufur 38-18 through three quarters, but the Lady Rangers rallied for a 17-8 fourth-quarter run to cut the deficit late in their 46-35 loss Saturday in Dufur. Dufur had a seven-point improvement from the first time these two teams played on Dec. 6, a 47-29 Heppner win.
After a 3-1 start to the season, the Hood River Valley football team has dropped two of its last three games, including last Friday’s home matchup against Forest Grove.
Last week, The Dalles Riverhawks defeated Hood River Valley and Hermiston in consecutive games and had a chance to jump into first place in the Columbia River Conference with a win over Pendleton. They had a chance to send a message, a chance to silence the naysayers, a chance to show they belonged in the league championship conversation. Instead, the No. 14-ranked Pendleton Buckaroos staked itself atop the CRC standings and dropped The Dalles down to third place following a 57-50 victory Tuesday at Kurtz Gym.
King’s Way won both games of a 1A Trico League varsity double-header here last Thursday to maintain its hold on second place in both boys and girls standings.
Jacob Hernandez missed two days of practice due to a sprained wrist. Hernandez hit a pair of clutch fourth-quarter 3-pointers, and he and teammate Josh Nisbet combined for 27 second-half points as The Dalles Riverhawks overcame a 33-29 halftime deficit with a 43-33 run in the final 16 minutes to dispatch of Hood River Valley, 72-66, Tuesday in Columbia River Conference hoops action at Kurtz Gym.
