The Dalles economy is poised to get yet another shot in the arm with the recent sale of an iconic local hotel. The Shilo Inn, situated along one of the more spectacular views of the Columbia River and Dalles Dam, sold for $9.2 million. And major renovations are planned for the 112-room hotel built in 1974 near the Gulick Homestead and Indian Shaker Church.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Lands Access Program has awarded the Oregon Department of Transportation more than $30 million to improve access to federal lands in the Columbia River Gorge. The funding includes $29 million to complete a new portion of the Historic Columbia River Highway Trail and connect it at Mitchell Point Crossing; $2.6 million for the Columbia Gorge Express to improve access to Multnomah Falls; and $300,000 for the Historic Columbia River Highway Congestion Mitigation Plan.

Post Offices in Bridal Veil, Cascade Locks, Corbett, Hood River, Mosier and Troutdale also have the postmarks available at customers’ request.
