Wasco County Commissioner Scott Hege called Debra Lutje’s opinion piece that ran Jan. 29 in The Dalles Chronicle “offensive” to ranchers but it wasn’t enough to remove her from the Wolf Compensation Committee. Chair Rod Runyon and Commissioner Steve Kramer agreed as all three voted against taking Lutje off the committee that includes one other wolf advocate, two ranchers and two business representatives.

The Wasco County Wolf Compensation Committee voted 4-2 Wednesday to oust Debra Lutje, one of two wolf advocates, for comments she made in an opinion piece that was published Jan. 29 in The Dalles Chronicle.

Commentary: Setting the record straight about wolves, ranching

It is a FACT wolves are predators and brutal ones at that. Are they “terrorists?” Do they terrorize? We can argue the adjective, noun or the verb, but there is no denying that wolves are vicious killers. Do wolves just follow their instincts preying on whatever target is easy and handy…like a bunch of cattle? Yep, they sure do.
