Columbia Center for the Arts, Waucoma Bookstore, and Carpe Diem Books are thrilled to welcome Darryl Lloyd into the CCA Theatre in Hood River on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m., to launch his book tour of “Ever Wild: A Lifetime on Mount Adams."
One of the world’s foremost authorities on Mount Adams, Darryl Lloyd offers up his 70 years of hiking, climbing and photographing Mount Adams in his new book, “Ever Wild: A Lifetime on Mount Adams.” Columbia Center for the Arts, Waucoma Bookstore and Carpe Diem Books will host Lloyd for an author talk and book signing on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. in the CCA theater to celebrate the book’s launch.
The Friends of Mt. Adams will be hosting a free public forum Friday, Dec. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Columbia High School’s library to discuss the future of communities and burned forest areas as a result of the 2015 Cougar Creek Fire. The fire burned almost 54,000 acres from Aug. 10 to Sept. 15, and was caused by lightning.
The Cougar Creek Fire Complex isn’t the first fire to sweep across the forests surrounding Mt. Adams. The Yakama Nation Reservation, Mt. Adams Wilderness, and Gifford Pinchot National Forest have all seen their share of wildfires over the past few decades, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t still concern over the burn that’s now engulfed more than 53,000 acres.
The original Wasco county courthouse history regional forum has a full slate of programs scheduled for February. Programs begin at 1:30 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom, of the 1859 courthouse, 410 West 2nd Place behind the The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce visitor’s center.
