The Wasco County Commission voted unanimously April 17 to give up public ownership of Davis-Cutoff Road, a .85-mile county road that serves as a connection between Highway 197 and Eight Mile Road. The road is located several miles southeast of The Dalles.

Dell Road, a local access road that connects Highway 30 with State Road near Mosier, is in such a state of disrepair that those who rely on it for access to their homes have turned to the county for maintenance support. However, the county does not have resources to help, explained Arthur Smith, Wasco County public works director on Feb. 21. He asked for the county board to help come up with a feasible solution to the problem.

To the editor: Long hard winter, tough on the farm life. It’s been very hard on the livestock. It’s been hard to get them drinkable water and enough food to keep them healthy. Sometimes it’s been hard to keep an open path just to get to them.

Icy conditions made a mess for Skamania County Fire Department District No. 3, with mutual aid from Klickitat County Fire District No. 3, White Salmon Fire Department, and Bingen Fire Department, when they responded to a house fire off Wess Road in Underwood.
