The historic Granada Theater building in downtown The Dalles has been sold to new owners. Charles Gomez and Debra Liddell, who do business as Charles Gomez Productions, paid $60,000 for the property and committed to pay for a list of upgrades to the exterior and interior of the theater.

The Columbia Gateway Urban Renewal Agency Advisory Committee voted 7-2 Tuesday to reject all proposals received for the Granada Block properties and put all three structures — the theater, Recreation building and Blue building — back on the market with conditions on redevelopment. The decision is only a recommendation to the Urban Renewal Agency Board – made up of The Dalles City Council ─ which has the final say.

The Columbia Gateway Urban Renewal Advisory Committee declined last week to pursue negotiations for a sale and renovation of the Granada Theater until there is more information about the scope of work and how it will be paid for.

City officials are reviewing three proposals for revitalization of the Granada block; one for a hotel conference center, another for a cultural/performing art facility and the third establishing an archeological dig site for tourism and education.
