Catherine Whalen named Next Door

The Next Door has named Catherine Whalen its 2014 Volunteer of the Year. Whalen has been on the Next Door’s Board of Directors since 1999, serving as chair for the last three years. Her guidance, leadership and advocacy have helped shape The Next Door for 15 years, ensuring that its many programs are responsive and accountable to the community, according to a press release from the organization.

Board views on termination of director

The Northern Wasco County Parks & Recreation District board voted to terminate the contract of its longtime executive director, Scott Green. Nikki Lesich, Catherine Whalen and Travis Dray voted in favor of terminating the contract, while Dean Dollarhide and Marcus Denney voted against it. Green said the close vote to terminate him after nine years on the job “raised a lot of eyebrows” in the parks district.
