Crews from Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue attacked a fire inside a home at 750 Hostetler Way in The Dalles Wednesday afternoon. The fire was reported about 2:30 p.m., Oct. 25, after a neighbor heard a loud explosion and saw flames inside the home.

The American Red Cross shelter opened in The Dalles due to the oil train derailment and subsequent evacuations will remain open today, Saturday, and through the night to assist affected residents. The shelter is located at Dry Hollow Elementary School, 1314 E. 19th St., The Dalles.

Winds have shifted toward the northwest over the Blackburn Fire this afternoon, prompting fire commanders to increase the evacuation level on houses at the end of Cherry Heights Road near Wells Road from Level I "Ready" to Level II "Get set," according to David Morman a spokesman at the Government Flats Fire Complex incident command.
