It appears the legal dance over Union Pacific Railroad’s proposed siding project will continue. On Tuesday, the Columbia River Gorge Commission (CRGC) rejected UP’s appeal, thereby denying the railroad’s bid to build an extended railroad siding at Mosier.
To the editor: I am supporting Bridget Bailey for county commissioner because Wasco County needs strong, vigorous leadership to provide for us and stimulate our economy. Bridget Bailey has the skills and background to be an excellent commissioner. The status-quo is not enough. More of the same is not the answer.
In its Oct. 20 editorial, The Dalles Chronicle stated it could not overcome a concern that electing Bridget Bailey would muddy “the waters between the judicial and legislative branch” because we are married. This is unfounded. I work for neither the legislative nor judicial branch. The Chronicle knows this already: they have done extensive reporting and editorializing on my interactions with the judicial branch of government, and I do not work in the legislature. I am independent of both the legislative and judicial branches, and independent of Wasco County Commissioners. I would have been happy to remind anyone at the Chronicle of this, but no one called me.
To the editor: It astounds me that people will write letters to criticize others when it is obvious they have not checked the facts! Mr. George Clark did this!
To the editor: It is unfortunate that there is such a broad misunderstanding of conflict of interest, and such a lack of understanding about the functions and responsibilities of county government, that these issues can be manipulated for use as campaign propaganda.
