MORO – Playing alongside state champion athletes Jacob Justesen and Treve Martin made Bradley Moe a better all-around player. The recent Sherman High School graduate recently had his name called as one of four players from the Husky baseball program as members of the 2A/1A Oregon Baseball Coaches Association 2018 All-State Team.
PILOT ROCK – Friday’s 2A state quarterfinal baseball matchup pitted No. 3 Pilot Rock against No. 6 Sherman in what was a closely-contested affair. The Rockets battled back from a 1-0 deficit with a four-run fifth frame and managed to hold off a late-inning rally for a 4-2 triumph in Pilot Rock.
Earlier in the season, Sherman seniors Trey Homer and Bradley Moe both agreed that the Huskies are far from a finished product. After Saturday’s two-game road sweep by scores of 6-0 and 12-5 at Culver, it appears that the No. 5-ranked Huskies are hitting their peak at the right time of the year with the No. 1 Blue Mountain Conference district seed and a state berth.
With sole possession of first place on the line, the No. 8-ranked Sherman Huskies used a complete-game effort by Brett Troutman and 10-hit offensive attack to inch past No. 10 Culver Tuesday in a Blue Mountain Conference baseball clash in Moro. The Huskies led 5-2 through the first five innings, but the Bulldogs rallied for two unearned runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 5-4 score with the tying run at second base and no outs.
The No. 9-ranked Sherman Huskies captured their sixth consecutive win, after a 20-2 mercy-ruled triumph over Dufur Tuesday at Dufur City Park.
Steamed after a heartbreaking, one-run loss to Homedale, ID., the Sherman Huskies took their frustrations out on Nyssa in a 13-0 mercy-ruled drubbing in final-day baseball action at the 2018 Iron Triangle Tournament Saturday in John Day.
On a cold December morning last year, Bradley Moe wanted to get on the diamond for some extra repetitions ahead of the upcoming baseball season. With no teammates or coaches around, the Sherman High School senior called on his mother Shannon Devore for some batting practice and soft toss. Just thinking about that moment — his mother dressed down in a heavy coat with mittens on and a stocking cap covering her head, evoked an ear-to-ear smile. It is not something a lot of other mothers would do, but Moe has plans to take the sport of baseball as far as he can, maybe even professionally, and so through that level of commitment from someone he loves, he vows to pay it forward at the next level, where he accepted a scholarship offer to play baseball for Clackamas Community College.
As a player, Sherman senior quarterback Jacob Justesen said it means the world to be working on the fourth playoff run in the last four years. Although this team has had its ups and downs, they are just starting to hit their stride. Justesen completed 5 of 8 passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns, and he added 90 yards on the ground with a rushing score as the No. 10-ranked Sherman Huskies punched a state ticket following a 68-14 win over the No. 19 Perrydale Pirates Friday night in Perrydale.
The Sherman Huskies have alternated wins and losses in the first four games of the season, last week defeating Pilot Rock in a 54-14 outcome.
Senior quarterback Jacob Justesen tossed a career-high five touchdowns and rushed for two scores to spearhead a 54-14 Sherman triumph over Pilot Rock Friday in a 1A football contest played in Moro.
