Last week, Oregonians from all sides erupted over one topic: The Elliott State Forest. It’s an 80,000 acre forested parcel located near the Southern Oregon coast — and it will soon be in private hands when the State Land Board sells it for $220.8 million.

On July 15, 2013, a plane departed Portland International Airport bound for Bangkok, Thailand. On board this flight was our family of four from Hood River. We had packed into four plastic crates all the belongings we believed were necessary for the next year or more.

This is the season of the bittersweet. Minds are on the return to school, a fact favored by parents and regretted by most kids. This is the time of year when wind sports enthusiasts are still looking for a good ride, but typically see glassy water. The lack of moving air aggravates the already warm temperatures.
To the editor: Today I visited the Dufur School briefly, and was impressed with the atmosphere. It made me wonder why everyone looked so happy to be doing time in the cells of academe.
A truck crash Thursday afternoon caused a brief back up on Interstate 84 westbound between exits 62 and 63. The west bound truck suffered an explosive puncture of one of the cab’s passenger side tires.
