DUFUR – It was quite the turnaround season for the Dufur baseball team.
After posting two wins and a ninth-place league finish, the young Rangers bolstered their roster with eight freshmen and won 11 games, securing a second-place league outcome and a state berth under head coach C.S. Little.
After back-to-back playoff berths, The Dalles baseball team posted more wins overall and in league action, scored 35 more runs and allowed 38 fewer runs, but had a 2-8 record in matchups decided by two runs or less, including an 0-5 mark in league contests.
There is a new energy across the board for The Dalles softball team. Katherine Kramer is back as head coach and she has a fired up group that is looking to get back on track, following two seasons where the varsity team posted an 11-39-1 record under two different coaches.
From the end of the season, a 3-2 state play-in loss to Putnam on May 19, a handful of baseball players from The Dalles High School were still active for summer and fall ball and were also in the cages over the winter getting extra swings in. That preparation was geared toward making a 2018 postseason run.
Kolbe Bales had an all-time season on the mound, finishing with career-highs in several categories for the Blue Mountain Conference champion Dufur Rangers. In a year of firsts, the Rangers had their high regular season ranking of No. 1 for that final two months, were the No. 1-seeded entering state action, added a program-best 24-2 record, and vaulted to their deepest postseason run in program history, the semifinals.
DUFUR – Last season, the Rangers posted a 12-15 overall record, and advanced to the Blue Mountain Conference championship, earning a state berth. Dufur lost to eventual state champion Burns in its playoff opener, but that performance, coupled with the return of all-state winners Kolbe Bales, Connor Uhalde, and Bailey Keever, fuels this team for bigger and better things in 2017.
