Shelter Services gear up for winter season

Headlines in the Hood River News eight years ago told of a homeless person who froze to death on a sidewalk in Hood River. This became a wake-up call for a group of people connected to GEM (Gorge Ecumenical Ministries). The Hood River Warming Shelter Steering committee was formed and the Warming Shelter opened in December 2012.

Hood River Warming Shelter held its first “Warm the Night” fundraiser Nov. 7 and raised nearly $6,000 for the shelter program, now in its sixth year.

The Hood River Warming Shelter will hold a “Warm the Night” silent auction of services 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, to kick off its 2015-16 season at its new location, 4041 Westcliff Drive, next to the Hood River Char Burger.
