FISH Food Bank held its annual Fall Harvest Celebration and Volunteer Appreciation Potluck at its FISH & Spirit of Grace garden in Hood River on Saturday. All community members and garden volunteers were welcome and asked to bring a dish to share if they were able.
To the editor: Created to engage our citizens in community-building efforts at the most local level, AmeriCorps programs and members serve our nation in six focus areas: disaster relief, education, public health, economic opportunity, environmental stewardship and veterans / military families. Unfortunately the good work of our veterans and the other 80,000 AmeriCorps members across the country is at risk. Recently, the White House released its 2018 budget that calls for the elimination of AmeriCorps and hundreds of other programs that are building and protecting our communities.
The Mt. Adams Institute has received a $499,000 AmeriCorps grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to support 58 AmeriCorps members in the successful career development programs: VetsWork Environment, VetsWork GreenCorps and Public Lands Stewards.
TROUT LAKE — The Mt. Adams Institute, based in Trout Lake, Wash., was awarded over half a million dollars to fund its VetsWork program for military veterans interested in careers in public lands and natural resources management. Funding for the program comes from the Corporation for National and Community Service (AmeriCorps).
