The school district is proposing adding six aides, two per elementary school, to contend with a notable increase in kindergarteners and first graders who are disruptive and unable to settle. Now, those kids are sent to the principal’s office, which is seen as punitive. The goal is to create a separate room in each elementary, staffed with an aide, where kids can go to calm down.

A male classroom aide at The Dalles Middle School was arrested last week and is accused of inappropriately touching two female students at school.

Jose Luis Martinez-Robledo, 48, a teacher's aide at The Dalles Middle School, was arrested at his home Oct. 12 and is charged with two counts of Sexual Harassment, according to a joint statement by Northern Wasco County School District (NWCSD) Superintendent Candy Armstrong and Sergeant Douglas Kramer of The Dalles Police.
