In his career, Tyler Vassar tallied eight medalist titles, had two top-10 state finishes, and as a sophomore, he played a big part in helping The Dalles boys golf team to its best state outcome in program history, second place. All of those positive memories will be his driving force at the collegiate level.
Intermountain Conference golfers competed in the final league event of the season to determine state and regional qualifiers Monday at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville. Medalist for the event was Isaac Buerger from Ridgeview with a 75, followed by Brodie Kuizenga from Crook County and Aidan Telles from The Dalles with 79’s.
Tyler Vassar hit birdies on 14 and 15 and shot a 74 for medalist honors, his second in the past three tournaments, Aidan Telles, who had one birdie, added an 81 for third place, and The Dalles boys golf squad combined for a season-best 345 to secure second place in Intermountain Conference play Monday at Eagle Crest in Redmond.
A nice inter-conference rivalry is brewing between The Dalles’ Tyler Vassar and Ridgeview’s Isaac Buerger. One week after Vassar picked up a medalist title by three strokes at the Redmond Invitational, Buerger sank a 20-foot putt on the 18th hole to claim first place over Vassar by one stroke at Monday’s Hood River Valley Invitational.
Tyler Vassar and Aidan Telles turned in top-5 finishes and The Dalles boys golf team placed third overall at The Riverhawk Invitational on Mar. 22 at The Dalles Country Club.
As of Monday afternoon, many aspects of the Intermountain Conference’s final playoff berths were still up in the air. Last week, The Dalles boys basketball team (9-11 overall, 2-3 league) split its first two district contests, beating Ridgeview 59-49 Thursday and losing 83-48 at Pendleton Saturday.
